LOCAL Conservatives have backed Douglas Ross' move to resign as a junior minister over the Dominic Cummings fiasco.
Mr Ross had been under secretary of state in the Scotland Office since his re-election as Moray's MP in December, but resigned this morning over Mr Cummings' lockdown trip from London to Durham.
Moray's SNP MSP Richard Lochhead is one of many to commend the decision, with the Moray Conservatives doing the same.
Chairman of the Moray Conservative Association, Neil McLeod, said: "Douglas has always done what he thought is right, even if it has put him at odds with the party leadership.
"We admire his independence of thought and the fact that he always puts representing his constituents first. He has my full support.”
Councillor Tim Eagle (Buckie, Conservative) added: “I have always fully supported Douglas who, time and time again, has stood up for the people of Moray.
“Like him, I believe nothing should stand in the way of the public health message which is vital for our country at this time.”
