Dallas Primary head teacher, Mairi Grant, confirmed her pupils, P7s Arthur Schiller, Gregory Davis, Timmy Edwards and Aimee Binnie were placed 3rd at the halfway point before “it all went wrong”.

She said: “It was a great event with some challenging questions that even I didn’t know!

“Our team did brilliantly in the first five rounds but things started to go wrong in the second half.

“They were disappointed not to progress to the next stage but really pleased to make it to this round for a second year running.”

Forres Town Hall was filled with supporters including other pupils, teachers, parents and Rotarians. The quiz was supported by Rotarians from across the north.

Rotary governor and Elgin member, Michelle Anderson, was pleased with the knowledge standard during the contest.

She said: “After ten rounds on various subjects, we had a tie break for 2nd place. Auldearn finished in 2nd place with Farr Primary School from Inverness taking 1st.

“Both schools now go through the final of the North Scotland Primary Schools Quiz at the Beach Ballroom in Aberdeen on June 14, where they will face other primary schools from across North Scotland.”

Mrs Grant added: “Well done to Farr and Auldearn … They’ll do well in the finals!”
