Moray's MSP is seeking a joint-meeting to deal with safety concerns about the A96 in and around Brodie.

In the week from July 9 and July 16, five crashes occurred on the two-mile stretch between Hardmuir and Brodie Countryfare.

Richard Lochhead has written to the police, Moray Council and Transport Scotland to try arrange an on-site meeting to discuss speeding and road safety.

He said: "I have previously raised concerns over the road safety issues at Brodie.

"In recent days I’ve been contacted by a number of local residents about the speed limit through the village, as well as the current road layout.

"The number of accidents on that stretch of road over the last week or so is a real concern.

"It is important that the police are allowed the time to establish exactly what caused each of them.

"However, I have promised to bring the relevant agencies together to discuss what action can be taken to address the issues being raised."

Councillor Scott Lawrence (Forres, SNP) said he'd also been contacted over the number of accidents and near misses on the road.

"Concerns about the speed of traffic travelling through Brodie are long-standing.

"People in the community are keen for the police and roads authorities to work together.

"I hope the relevant organisations will agree to meet so local concerns are heard."
