Moray's MP has stated that the current problems of accessing cash in Forres show the "recklessness" of banks abandoning the town.

Douglas Ross says he's been contacted by several constituents due to two of the town's ATM machines being out of order again.

Both the Co-Op and McColl's in the High Street were broken on Friday morning, having also been inaccessible over the previous weekend.

Mr Ross states the ongoing situation strengthens his desire to bring a banking hub to the town as soon as possible.

He said: "Many elderly and vulnerable customers will be left scrambling to get cash if there are continued problems.

"Banking services must be easily accessible for people in communities across Moray, including Forres.

"A town the size of Forres should not be left without a bank branch – the inaccessibility of these ATM shows the perilous situation that can arise as a result."

Forres lost its last remaining branch with the closure of the Bank of Scotland earlier this month.

Cash, despite the problems encountered recently, has continued to be available from the ATM machine at Tesco.

It can also be withdrawn at the post office, but only on week days.
