Kinloss Military Wives Choir are performing in Forres and Kinloss
Twenty-one talented local singers are performing for the community at two festive events.
Kinloss Military Wives Choir (KMWC) will round off a busy year outside Forres Tolbooth at 3.15pm on Saturday, November 30 during the town’s Christmas lights switch-on, followed by a concert at Kinloss Parish Church on Friday, December 6 starting at 7pm.
Choir lead, Lisa Harrison, confirmed 2024 has been “action-packed”.
She said: “We kicked the year off with a concert at St Rufus Church, Keith followed by a wonderful commemorative concert at Royal British Legion (Scotland) Nairn. Along with the RBL, the second event was to raise money in aid of the Far East Prisoners of War Memorial in Cawdor.
“In June, we were honoured to sing at the 80th anniversary of D-Day in Findhorn, which was humbling to be a part of.
“Moray Concert Brass invited us to join their Spirit of Brass Festival 2024 weekend in September, where we debuted ‘To be a soldier’s wife’ - our own song written and composed for us by Adam Csenki and Justine Hopkirk following our musical director hearing the poem of the same name, written by Tracy Mallon.
“We were pleased to be invited to Forres RBL to perform at their poppy launch event at the end of October.
“Finally, on Monday, November 11, we joined 39 Engineer Regiment at their personal service on the camp to sing three of our most poignant Remembrance songs, ‘Carry me’, ‘We will Remember them’ and ‘The Poppy Red’.”
KMWC is thriving, with 21 members who rehearse - and enjoy cake - on Wednesdays from 7-9pm at Cumming Hall, Portal Road, Kinloss.
“We are currently preparing for the fabulous Forres Christmas lights switch-on,” said Lisa. “We’ll will be singing from 3.15pm on Saturday, November 30. Expect classic MWC Christmas songs as well as some more well-known numbers too!
“We’ll then have a busy week of practice for our second concert at Kinloss Parish Church on Friday, December 6 from 7pm. ‘Christmas with Kinloss Military Wives Choir’ will be a fun, festive evening with a great mixture of songs.
“We look forward to having you join us to deck the halls!”
The big switch-on is a free event in Forres town centre. Tickets for the Kinloss Church gig will be on sale on the night. Refreshments will be served at the end of the performance.
