Met Office ice warning issued for Moray, Aberdeenshire and the Highlands as temperatures fall

Ice will pose a danger to motorists and pedestrians overnight and into Monday, the Met Office has warned Highland and Moray residents.

The national forecast agency issued a yellow weather warning on Sunday evening. It will come into force at 9pm and remain in place until 10am on Monday.

It warned that a day of rain, sleet and snow showers will be followed by a clear spell overnight, allowing untreated surfaces to freeze.

A spokesperson said: "Showers will continue into the first part of the night, before dying out later. Skies will clear, and with winds easing, temperatures will fall quickly, leading to some icy patches developing on untreated roads, footpaths and cycle paths."

The areas covered by the warning include Caithness, eastern and central Sutherland, Easter and Mid Ross, Inverness, the Black Isle, the Great Glen as far south of Fort Augustus, Nairnshire, and most of Moray and Aberdeenshire. It will also extend south across the Grampians and Cairngorms as far south as Dalwhinnie
