Marathon scores big boost for Macmillan
A GROUP of friends from Forres raised nearly £1200 for charity by playing football ... for 12 consecutive hours!
Organiser Mark Donald teamed up with Dave, Lorne and Ewan Milligan, Ryan Campbell, Kyle Englishby, Ashley Davy and Chris Melia to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
The football-a-thon was held at Roysvale from 8am-8pm and featured various games including 5-a-sides, penalty shoot outs, ‘headers and volleys’, ‘two-a-side champs’ and ‘World Cup’. The participants took turns to have short rest breaks but football of some sort was played for the entire duration of the event.
“We were sore for two or three days afterwards and got a bit sunburnt but it was well worth it!,” said Mark.
“We are all happy to know that the money we raised is going to a good cause and want to make it an annual event.”
Mark presented a cheque to the Macmillan Cancer Support staff at their shop on the High Street.
“We at Macmillan are absolutely delighted with the success of the fundraiser that Mark organised,” said fundraising manager for the north of Scotland, Christina Keith.
“We’d like to extend a special thanks to everyone who took part.
“The funds raised will go towards helping make sure that no one faces cancer alone.”
