Nathan Evans, singer behind lockdown sensation Sea Shanty, to play MacMoray Festival in Elgin
The man behind Covid-lockdown sensation ‘Sea Shanty’ will be performing at this year’s MacMoray Festival.
Nathan Evans went viral almost overnight after posting videos of himself singing on TikTok in the summer of 2020, during the first coronavirus lockdown.
In 2021, he released a cover of the song ‘Wellerman (Sea Shanty)’ which rocketed to number one in the UK charts.
The 30-year-old, from Airdrie, is coming to Elgin in April - alongside Saint Phnx - to perform at MacMoray in Cooper Park.
The two-day event will take place on Saturday and Sunday, April 19 and 20. Evans will play on the Sunday.
Event organiser Andy Macdonald said: “What's really exciting is that Nathan is the one that has been requested the most.
“Even many moons ago when we asked on social media - Nathan Evans was always the people’s choice.
“It was mad how many people asked for him, so it was only right we get him. There is no better way to start announcements for this year.
“Nathan is excited to come up and is buzzing to be doing MacMoray. He’s great and will go down a treat.”
This is the fifth running of MacMoray - which attracts around 10,000 visitors per day. At the minute, it’s planned to be the final event.
Nathan Evans and Saint Phnx join Lasgo, The Vengaboys, Showaddywaddy, N-Trance, Baccara, Black Lace and the Red Hot Chilli Pipers on the bill.
More band announcements are due to follow in the near future - keep your eyes peeled on our website on Tuesday and Friday evenings.
