Teachers have been hugely affected by the pandemic with disruption to their teaching environment, from online lessons to assessments replacing exams.

They have had to work hard to adapt to the new environment while ensuring their students received the best education possible in the most challenging of circumstances.

The achievements of teachers will be recognised with awards for the primary teacher and secondary teacher of the year.

The teachers of the year will be individuals who have made a significant difference, beyond the normal expectations, to the learning experience of their pupils

Sponsoring the award for primary teacher of the year is DYW Moray.

DYW Moray, which brings employers, young people and educators together is proud to be involved in the Moray & Banffshire Heroes awards for another year. Sarah Barnes, who heads up the organisation, said: “We absolutely loved being involved in these awards previously and seeing just how many heroes our wonderful region has, so it was clear we would want to be part of this again.

“This time, we have chosen to sponsor the primary school teacher of the year as part of our remit is to engage with pupils from the minute their education journey starts and illustrate to them via various strategies what a broad spectrum of employment opportunities there are in this fabulous area. We urge everyone to get nominating and we look forward to meeting the winner at the awards ceremony.”

AJ Engineering, Forres, is sponsoring the secondary teacher of the year award.

Investing in young people has always been part of the ethos of construction and fabrication company AJ Engineering which is why it is proud to be involved in the Moray & Banffshire Heroes awards for 2022.

The Forres-based company, which works on projects mainly in the UK, but has an ongoing project in Antarctica with a team due to arrive in the next few weeks, is delighted to be sponsoring the secondary school teacher award and managing director Alan James explained why: “AJ Engineering is proud to have a great track record of investing in young people through various schemes including our apprenticeship programme which has been running for 20 years, indeed since the day the company was founded. At the heart of this has to be great teaching and support for young people at school level, so we are pleased to be part of this significant award scheme which will recognise the dedication and hard work of secondary teaching across the region.”
