A new version of Macbeth starring two of Hollywood's best known actors is now available to watch.

In a piece of colour-blind casting The Tragedy of Macbeth features Denzil Washington in the title role.

Meanwhile, double Oscar winner Frances McDormand plays Lady Macbeth.

The film, which currently has a 94% approval rating on the Rotten Tomatoes online review site, is a rare solo effort by its director Joel Coen, one half of the famous Coen brothers team and also McDormand's husband.

Shakespeare scholars will be able to tell you that Forres features in the original play – it's where Macbeth is heading when he first encounters the three witches.

However neither Moray, nor even Scotland, are on screen in the new version, which was instead filmed entirely on a sound stage in Los Angeles in order to give the film a look "untethered from reality".

The Tragedy of Macbeth is available to watch on Apple TV+ which offers a seven-day free trial.

It's also in some cinemas, although none locally at the moment apart from Cromarty Cinema tomorrow (Wednesday, January 26) at 7pm.
