Moray Council setting up ‘marriage room’ at Elgin High Street headquarters
Couples getting married will soon be able to tie the knot in a “dedicated” room at a council headquarters building.
Moray Council’s registration services team is moving from 240 High Street - on the west end of Elgin High Street - to the council’s headquarters, on November 11.
Part of the move will see a ‘dedicated marriage room’ set up in the HQ.
There will be a period of transition from weddings in the current building, with couples already booked in given the option of using the new location in due course.
The registration services team is responsible for births, deaths and marriages in Moray, as well as conducting civil marriage ceremonies and managing local citizenship ceremonies.
Council Leader Kathleen Robertson (Forres, Conservative), said: “A refurbished marriage room will create a lovely atmosphere for that most exciting of days for couples who are looking for a more intimate ceremony with up to 20 guests.
“Of course, our registration services look after people on both the most joyful and sorrowful occasions and will continue to do that with the utmost compassion and care.”
Contact details remain the same for the team, who can be phoned on 01343 554600 or emailed on registrar@moray.gov.uk with more details of the services offered online.
