Look out for Santa's sleigh in Forres

By SPP Reporter

HO, ho, ho ... guess who's back!

Santa and his helpers are touring local housing estates over the next 10 days to visit local children before Christmas and collect for worthy causes.

Carlo Miele of Rotary Club Forres hopes the community turns out to support the tour tradition of more than 30 years.

He said: "The sleigh has had a refit using kind donations of work and fittings from local organisations and individuals.

"Children can bring their wish list and chat to Santa who will be giving out the traditional raisins and satsumas."

The Sleigh requires a driver, a Santa, four safety officers and around five people to knock on doors and police stops.

"We really need as many volunteers as we can get," added Carlo. "Some nights we only have enough just for safety. If the event is to continue we need more support."

The sleigh tour nights usually run from 5.45-8pm ... just listen out for the music!

The routes this year are: Thornhill on Monday, December 10: Balnageith and Brander Gardens on Tuesday, December 11; Knockomie Gardens on Wednesday, December 12; Knockomie Rise on Thursday, December 13; Ferryhill, Mannachie Gardens and Allan Drive on Friday, December 14; Thornhill Crescent, Fleurs and Anderson Crescent on Monday, December 17; Castle Street, Roysvale and Sanquhar on Tuesday, December 18; Bogton, Croft Road and Doune Park on Wednesday, December 19; Drumduan and Forbeshill on Thursday, December 20; Alexandra Terrace, Nelson Road, Adam Drive and St Leonards Road on Friday, December 21; and Tesco on Sunday, December 23.

"We are collecting to support Woman’s Aid Moray, the Wednesday Night Club and various local charities," added Carlo.

"On December 23, we are collecting for the Shelterbox charity to help purchase warm winter clothing for child victims of the war in Syria."
