Lochhead: 'Forres folk should consider community council'

PEOPLE in the Forres area should think about getting involved with their community councils, according to their MSP.

Moray MSP Richard Lochhead (right), pictured here with Moray Council convener George Mcintyre and Forres Community Warden Margaret Cowie, has made the call.

Richard Lochhead made the call, saying they performed a valuable role in the political process.

He said their work was “targeted and informed” because of their makeup of local volunteers.

“I regularly hear from Community Councils in different parts of Moray on particular issues and I have met with several community councils and the Joint Community Council over the years to share information and discuss issues that affect people on a day to day basis,” he said. “The Scottish Government has a commitment to strengthen and grow the role of community councils including looking at how to increase the diversity of members.”

The ‘Gazette’ put Mr Lochhead’s comments to last night’s meeting of Forres Community Council. The members’ responses will appear in the next edition of the newspaper.
