THE line-up for the upcoming virtual Bothy Ballads concert has been announced.

The Grand Bothy Virtual Concert has been arranged to replace this year’s Bothy Ballads Concert, which was cancelled due to coronavirus at the start of January.

The concert will be compered by Gary Coull and will feature a guest performance from famed north-east fiddler Paul Anderson.

Performers include Joe Aitken, Hector Riddell, Shona Donaldson, Moira Stewart, Geordie Murison and many other Bothy Ballads favourites.

Graham Milne, team leader for Bothy Ballads, said: "We were keen to keep the event on the same date and, with the help of the Traditional Music and Song Association in Aberdeen, the idea of a virtual event became reality.

"The TMSA did this last year so they are quite OK with the technology and that was music to our ears.

"Normally the Bothy Ballads is a final after heats take place during the course of the year. With having no heats, a concert was the next best thing."

The virtual concert will take place on Saturday, February 5, at 7.30pm. It will be free to watch on the Rotary Elgin and Aberdeen Traditional Music and Song Association (TMSA) Facebook pages.

Those who don’t have access to Facebook can email aberdeentmsa@gmail.com and a Zoom link will be sent out prior to the concert.

The Bothy Ballads were cancelled last year due to the coronavirus pandemic, but took place in 2019.

Elgin Town Hall has been booked for the next two years as the night aims to return to some normality. The hall is booked for February 11, 2023.

Although the concert is free to watch, donations will be very welcome through PayPal as Rotary Elgin aim to keep this great tradition alive in future years.
