A GROUP of female players at Forres Golf Club has raised £300 for charity.

The ladies section hold a competition with an entry fee of £1 every Tuesday from October to March with prizes for the winner and runner-up.

Spokeswoman Dorothy Marshall confirmed that, at the end of the season, any money left over is donated to a local charity.

She said: “This year £300 was left so it was decided to donate to Moray Stroke Folks, which is affiliated to Chest, Heart and Stroke Scotland (CHSS). It’s a social group for people who’ve had strokes and the Forres branch has been going for 11 years come July. It normally meets once a week and offers the chance to enjoy company, take part in quizzes and go on monthly outings.”

She added: “For some, it offers the only time they get to interact with others.

“Although it has not been possible to do any of this during the lockdown, CHSS has been running virtual meetings on a Wednesday mornings, offering members gentle exercises, quizzes and general conversation to try and ensure that everyone has the opportunity to keep their body and mind active.”
