Moray Council community warden tasked with reducing crime, improving environment and building pride
Moray Council has employed a new community warden for the area to focus on antisocial issues.
Originally from Spey Bay and having previously worked in the Keith area, Donna Jamieson has been enjoying making connections in-and-around Forres for three days-a-week since January.
She said: “There is a terrific community spirit here, with a thriving and friendly town centre.
“My role involves offering advice, providing a visible presence and helping with any concerns that come up in the community. It’s a very diverse role, and each day is very different.
“I’m looking forward to engaging and working with more individuals and community groups in the area, to keep improving on the great reputation Forres already has!”
Community wardens aim to reduce crime, improve the environment and help build community pride.
Three wardens cover Moray and provide support to the local authority’s housing liaison officer who deals with council tenants’ antisocial behaviour.
Community Wardens will also attend disputes in the private housing sector to provide basic mediation techniques.
They also investigate other low level antisocial behaviour and work with the police.
Finally, wardens are authorised to issue fixed penalty notices for litter, dog fouling and fly tipping offences, as well as investigate abandoned vehicles.
“I most enjoy interacting with the public,” said Donna, “finding out about their lives and hearing their concerns. I also enjoy working outdoors!
