Elgin man is jailed for calling 999 a total of 32 times in a month
A serial 999 fake caller who threatened emergency service workers with a knife has been jailed again.
Wayne Taylor called ambulances to his home multiple times even though he wasn’t ill. This included 32 separate occasions during the course of just one month.
Elgin Sheriff Court was told that, despite having “mild” learning difficulties, the 54-year-old defendant was aware of the severe problems he was causing.
It was also stated that alcohol was the cause of his behaviour.
On November 8, 2023, the emergency services went to Taylor’s home on Langstane Place, Elgin, after receiving a call.
They left after concluding he was safe and well, only to be called back ten minutes later.
This time Taylor was brandishing a black-handled knife above his head. He finally dropped the weapon on being warned he’d be tasered.
Six days later he then contacted the police to demand his knife be returned.
Having been told this wouldn’t be possible, he rang again half an hour later and stated he was suicidal. Taylor added that he was going to go outside and step in front of a car.
When the emergency services went to his home, the defendant again became aggressive, threatened them with a walking stick and lunged at a female police officer.
On another occasion three days later, Taylor angirly followed a team of departing paramedics out of his house and dented the bonnet of their ambulance using his walking stick.
In addition, on April 14 last year, Taylor assaulted a family member by pushing her on the chest, despite the fact she had recently undergone open heart surgery.
Another offence saw him slam a cupboard door on a female employee at the Turning Point Scotland offices on Greyfriars Street, Elgin.
Taylor, who has already been jailed for making fake 999 calls, was once again placed behind bars.
Calling his behaviour “reprehensible”, Sheriff David Harvie imprisoned him for a total of 19 months.
