Forres Library Bookbug sessions reach 15-year anniversary
Songs, rhymes and stories sessions for babies and toddlers at Forres Library have now been running for more than 15 years.
‘Bookbug’ sessions - Scotland's universal early years programme - helps families to read, sing, and play with their little ones from birth to give them the best start in life.
Senior library and information officer, Belinda Matthewman, enjoys sharing the joy of reading with generation after generation.
She said: “It’s very rewarding to be part of these sessions, interacting with families and seeing the smiles and hearing giggles from the children who attend.
“Our sessions start from birth and last until a child turns five, and it really is special to watch them grow.”
Families enjoy sharing stories, songs and rhymes with their little ones at Bookbug, helping their development, language and social skills.
Spending a few minutes reading together every day helps to build bonds and develop relationships, often having a positive effect on emotional wellbeing.
Bookbug is funded by the Scottish Government's Improving Health and Wellbeing Division and Creative Scotland's Youth Music Initiative.
Bookbug co-ordinator Linda Geddes confirmed parents and carers are welcome to accompany their children.
She said: “Positive feedback we receive from families shows us just how much the children gain from these sessions.
“It’s a real privilege to play a role in their lives as they grow up; and when they are absorbed in the storytelling, you know you are making a difference in their early development.”
Forres Library currently offers up to 15 child places for each session which run three times-a-month.
The next sessions are on Saturday, March 22 from 10.30-11am, Thursday, April 3 from 2-2.30pm, Tuesday, April 15 from 10-10.30am and Saturday, April 26 from 10.30-11am.
