A GROUP of super-fit men and women raised nearly £1000 for charity by cycling non-stop over six hours.

The annual sponsored Spin-a-thon at Forres Swimming Pool, organised by Dave Chapman and run by fitness instructor Debbie Hutchinson, generated £815 for chosen charity #Team Hamish.

Debbie confirmed 11 static bikes were constantly occupied for six hours from 7am to 1pm by participants who completed spinning exercises 'en-route'.

She said: "Everyone who took part did amazingly well. All were full of enthusiasm and knew all the hard work would be worthwhile. Some did two or three hours, and Aileen Rennie actually did four! It was an awesome effort."

Team Hamish was started to raise money for Nairn youngster Hamish Hey who was diagnosed with cancer in 2011, aged just two-years-old. Hamish underwent months of gruelling treatment, comprising intensive chemotherapy and radiotherapy, together with a pioneering surgery called a rotationplasty, resulting in him having a prosthetic limb. During the following few years, he fought on, living life as best he could, with regular check-ups and extensive routine medication.

Tragically, in March 2016, aged 7, Hamish was diagnosed with an aggressive, inoperable tumour within the brainstem, for which there is no cure. He passed away in February, 2017.

#Team Hamish has since affiliated with the Nairn Improvement Community Enterprise to benefit Nairn's community and to promote the improvement and regeneration of the area.

Debbie is proud to have raised money for the cause which carries on in memory of such a brave little boy.

She said: "Last year, Forres Swimming Pool raised funds for Abbie's Sparkle Foundation and the year before for Defibs For Moray. Every year it’s a different local charity.

"Thank you to Dave Chapman for the use of leisure centre and organising the annual event."
