Huge wildfire closes several roads on Dava moor
Wildfires in the Highlands and Moray have closed a number of roads with flames said to be rising up to 50ft in the air.
The A939 is closed between Grantown and Ferness, while the A940 is closed at Dava, Police Scotland said on Saturday evening.
The B9007 has also been closed between Ferness and Duthil.
Police Scotland say emergency services are in attendance and have asked people to avoid the area if possible. Nearby residents are advised to keep windows and doors closed.
One witness said the smoke could be seen from at least 10 miles away, with the flames being fanned by strong winds and the fire spreading quickly.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 5.50pm on Saturday, June 28, to reports of a fire in the open on the A939 near Dava, Grantown-on-Spey.
“Operations control mobilised four fire appliances to the area, where firefighters are currently working to extinguish the fire.
“Crews remain in attendance.”
