Forres Associated School Group Primary Schools Cricket Festival features 90 players

Seven schools and 90 pupils competed in the local heat of a regional cricket competition.

Kinloss and Alves battled out the final of the day-long Forres Associated School Group Primary Schools Cricket Festival for P6 pupils in mixed teams at Grant Park, that also featured Pilmuir, Dyke and Dallas, as well as two teams each from Anderson’s and Applegrove who have the largest P6 year groups.

The event is organised by Forres St Lawrence Cricket Club on the day, with support from Active Schools and the Moray Cricket Association (MCA).

Active Schools coordinator, Paul Rogan, thanked MCA community coach, Neil Nicol and the school staff for their help.

He said: “We could not have wished for a better day with clear blue skies. The event went smoothly with all games played in a great spirit throughout.

“The quality of the games kept the spectators entertained with some huge sixes smashed around the park, making sure everyone was concentrating on the games.”

Each team played four group games ahead of play-offs for the final and 3rd placed runner-up.

The decider for 3rd place was between Dallas and Anderson’s, with Dallas coming out on top after a quality display of batting and bowling. Dallas 282 for 2, Anderson’s 222 for 6.

Kinloss, Alves and Dallas will now represent the Forres ASG at the Moray finals in June.
