Since the start of term a cold meal choice has been offered while plans were put in place for the hot meal option to return.

Staff have now assessed how a hot meal option will work in practice with covid-19 safety measures in place, for example to allow catering staff to socially distance in the kitchen.

From Monday, September 21 pupils in primary schools in Moray will have one hot and one cold option on their menu with secondary pupils having the additional choice of panini, hot pasta and hot wraps alongside grab and go items.

Speaking ahead of the re-introduction of hot lunch options, catering manager for Moray Council, Elaine McRae, said: “We needed to see how schools functioned with pupils and staff observing distancing measures and the use of space within buildings so we could plan for hot meals returning.

“With each kitchen and canteen having a different layout we’ve taken time to make sure risk assessments take into account the practical side of cooking and serving hot meals in dining rooms or classrooms.

“There will undoubtedly be some more fine tuning needed and we thank pupils and staff in advance for their understanding while we all get used to a new look lunchtime.”

The new menu rotation for primary schools can be found on the Moray Council website and is downloadable.
