Higlands and Islands Enterprise and Forres-based orbital launch services company Orbex will update the business community on local space industry opportunities next week.

A free business breakfast to learn about the growing space sector in Moray is being hosted by Moray Chamber of Commerce.

The event, which includes breakfast, will take place from 8am on Wednesday, March 30 at the Royal Hotel in Elgin.

Sarah Medcraf, chief executive of Moray Chamber of Commerce said: “We are really excited about

bringing this event to the business community. Quite often we are asked if the space sector is a secret, mainly due to lack of knowledge on the subject.

"This is a great opportunity for businesses to find out more about what’s been going on and the future plans. More importantly, it is an opportunity for businesses to learn how they can get involved with opportunities that may arise.”

Orbex – based at the Enterprise Park in Forres – is one of Europe’s leading orbital launch services companies and is actively growing its operations in the area.

Chris Larmour, CEO of Orbex said: “Orbex is at the forefront of the Scottish space industry and is focused on building the world’s most environmentally friendly space rocket to launch small satellites into low-earth orbit from our home spaceport in Sutherland.

"These satellites will provide a range of new services – everything from providing rural connectivity to monitoring the impact of climate change.

"We have rapidly expanded our operations in Moray in recent years, putting local people from the area at the heart of this exciting new industry, and we are committed to engaging with local communities and businesses to keep them informed about opportunities to work with Orbex, and help build a truly local supply chain wherever we can.”
