Forres Academy and Growing2gether charity seek opinion on what matters to community
Three Forres Academy pupils are trying to address issues raised by young people in the area.
The trio aged 14 to 16 - the Youth Social Action (YSA) group - is leading a community social action project supported by the Growing2gether charity based in Findhorn.
Growing2gether community and youth participation manager, Dawn Price, explained that, by consulting the community about the topics young people are most concerned about, they aim to make a real difference.
She said: “We want this project to reflect the true needs of Forres. By gathering feedback, we can focus our energy on making the most meaningful change.”
The group recently launched their consultation via an online survey and interactive stall on Forres High Street.
YSA outlined important topics including: stereotyping young people; racism; bullying; abuse; sexuality; emotions and feelings; substance misuse; organised activities for young people; and suicide prevention.
They are also eager to hear directly from residents about what is important to them. Locals chatted about the issues they think are pressing at the interactive street stall.
YSA is still encouraging community members to complete their survey online at https://bit.ly/ForresYSAsurvey. The deadline is Wednesday, March 19.
Growing2gether works with young people to build confidence, emotional health, employment, and life skills. The YSA initiative encourages them to take an active role in the community and drive positive change.
The project operates within a budget of £500 and is running until June. Once the feedback is collected, the group will review the suggestions and vote on a project that will provide a lasting benefit to the community and can be completed within eight weeks.
Dawn finished: “With their enthusiasm and drive, these young changemakers are proving that age is no barrier to making a difference.
“We encourage residents to help shape the future of Forres by sharing their insight.”
