HELDON and Laich has elected two Conservative councillors, an SNP Councillor and a returning independent.

Voters in the ward opted for Conservatives James Allan and Bridget Mustard, Independent John Cowe and Neil Cameron, an SNP candidate.

James Allan was delighted with his 1331 votes, which also saw two Conservative councillors being elected for the first time.

He said: "It really feels great. I was a bit nervous because we had two candidates, but I was delighted to get all those votes again.

"Last time, I had double the votes of any other candidate and I was thinking: 'Oh, two candidates, I might lose a lot of my votes.'

"I am chuffed to do so well, especially with two candidates.

"If I had the whole ward I probably would have been over 2000."

Bridget Mustard said: "It is really exciting but nervewracking because I was up against two very strong incumbents who were standing, so that was very good.

"Very nice to be the only woman candidate in that ward and to win, that was nice.

"It is going to be really exciting, the Conservatives have a really good team, we have been working together over the last couple of months and we have already formed a great partnership.

"It was also nice to meet all the other candidates as well."

Independent John Cowe was thrilled to continue serving the local area.

He said: "Oh I am just delighted, absolutely delighted.

"A huge thanks is due to the electorate of Heldon and Laich for the support I have had over the last nine years."

Neil Cameron said: "To up the vote as well by as much as we did today, I am just over the moon.

"It is a very big moment, yeah.

"I am absolutely delighted.

"Well there are a lot of people in the ward that are struggling and we would be looking to help them as much as we can because the cost of living is going through the roof.

"That would be my priority, to get help for them.’
