MORE artists are being invited to apply for funding to support their work.

Before she died in 2017, photographer and writer, the late Adriana Sjan Bijman left instructions that a legacy should be established in her name to support the development of other creative people.

Her friend and Adriana Sjan Bijman Artist Support Fund administrator, Pat Ellison, confirmed Adriana was a gifted artist who lived in Moray for over 20 years.

She said: "Her artistic voice was constantly developing in response to landscape, ideas and relationships; she was forever seeking new artistic challenges.

"For those of us involved in ensuring that her wish for this legacy is fulfilled, it is a joy to find so many people seeking, as she did, to push forward their own boundaries and to want to say and do something unique through art."

This is the third round of funding - two artists who benefited from the first were Maria Olsthoorn and Andrea Turner.

Maria wanted to develop her artistic technique and confidence through mentoring.

She said: "My teacher expertly guided me towards a successful outcome. I have gained enormous confidence."

Maria is exhibiting via North East Open Studios at www.mariaolsthoorn.com and takes commissions for pet portraits.

Andrea wanted to develop her poetic voice through mentoring and workshops. She has recently spent time at the Arvon Centre and her lyrical poem River Love is part of a new body of work.

The Artist Support Fund is open twice-a-year and £4050 was awarded in the last round of grants.

Applications for the next round to pat.ellison1947@gmail.com are welcome until January 10, 2021.

River Love by Andrea Turner

One salmon dawn I lay on your bed,

my limbs softened, spread,

you ringed me in gold and we were wed.

In the rapids I clung to slick, slippery stone

while you massaged my skin

loosened my bones.

At the bay fresh water gave way to brine.

Your sweet mouth slid

salt-wet on mine.

You babbled on, sliver-tongued.

You never slept, I slept alone.

You ran through me like you belonged.

You immerse me, slake my thirst,

each moment I’m with you

is the first.
