AROUND 85 people enjoyed a free meal at Forres Town Hall.

The Community Meal event was organised by Forres Area Community Trust (FACT) and Moray Food Plus to encourage socialisation and demonstrate how otherwise discarded food can be appreciated.

FACT community development officer Vicky Flood explained: "Community meals are put together from food recovery - food that is coming to its end date but perfectly fine to use.

"The events bring people together and allow us to work with local organisations to solve local problems."

Fifteen volunteers helped prepare and serve three soups and three puddings, followed by tea and coffee. Seven volunteers were from Turning Point Church.

Ms Flood added: "We are very proud of the volunteers who came along to help. They worked as a team to produce and serve the food."

Moray Food Plus development worker Lindsay Welsh confirmed the charity holds a number of community meals around Moray every month, as well as distributing food parcels to individuals and organisations in Forres.

She said: "Community meals are for anyone and everyone. They give people a chance to come along and have a bowl of soup and a pudding. The volunteers love getting involved as well.

"It’s a win-win all round and we look forward to holding more next year."
