A LOCAL pop group are releasing a new single this month.

Be Like Pablo (BLP) recorded 'Call You Back' at the Start Together Studios in Belfast with producer Rocky O'Reilly and a music video by Scottish film studio Crow House, inspired by science fiction B-movies and in the style of an 80s Spielberg blockbuster.

BLP singer Karen Mclauchlan descibed the single as: "A pop song with Weezer guitars, a female lead vocal, a sing-along mid-section and an ending in the style of Big Country."

Pairing the classic sound with relatable lyrics, Call You Back charts a fading relationship via a series of telephone calls.

Songwriter Ewen Watson explained: "I’ve always found phone conversations to be very interesting narrative tools - they give this song the timeless quality we were looking for.

"The song was inspired by nineties bands and is reminiscent of some of the classic eighties pop songs I grew up on.

"We also wanted a song with a female lead vocal to give our band member Karen the spotlight."

BLP released their first single Spirit of Advenure in 2011 and have since performed at huge festivals including T-in-the-Park and even on BBC Radio One.

"We have only recorded one album," added Ewen, "but we have plans to make a second one featuring our recent singles alongside new songs.

"The new video looks like it was filmed on a big-time film set but it was in fact filmed in multiple locations in Aberdeen. Some of the scenes were filmed in some really amazing looking woods at night time and it was the coldest I've ever been in my entire life!"

BLP's last show was at the March Into Pitlochry festival a few months ago and they will be kicking off a number of summer dates with a performance at the Summer Solstace festival at the Black Isle Brewery near Avoch.

New single Call You Back will be released on May 24. The accompanying music video can be viewed at bit.ly/PabloVid
