AN electronic dance music producer from Forres is celebrating the successful release of his new record.

Acutek's 'Lo Fi Warp' EP reached number two on the Beatport Raw/Deep/Hypnotic release chart, number six on the Peak Time/Driving Techno release chart and number 30 across all genres globally, with two of the tracks breaking into the individual track charts - a first for the 29-year-old DJ also known as Duncan Falconer from High Street, Forres.

Duncan said: "The release is doing well. It's my proudest piece of work yet and consists of everything from spacey techno with melodic synths to gritty techno with dubby influences."

The DJ - a Waste Management Officer for Scottish Water during the day - used sequencer software Ableton to create the music, programme the drums and write the synthesizer lines.

The songs on the EP, 'Lo Fi Warp', 'Human Doing' and 'Noise Factory', plus remixes by Assassin Soldier Recordings owner Israel Toledo and Paisley DJ and producer Ross Hillier, have been released by Unknown Territory, a record label based in Glasgow run by producers and DJs Lex Gorrie, and Hans Bouffmyhre.

"The tracks were inspired by the aim of getting signed to Unknown Territory," said Duncan. "They took various arrangements and mixes to get to the point I was happy with them and the label would take them. They were rejected first time round but I brought them up to standard."

Duncan was thrilled to hear Spanish electronic music artist Paco Osuna, Greek techno DJ Axel Karakasis and Italian producer Luigi Madonna have been playing tracks from Lo Fi Warp in their DJ sets.

"All the hard work has paid off!" said Duncan, " It's crazy - I've been playing their songs for years!"

Acutek has played at large city venues including Ironworks, Inverness and The Tunnels, Aberdeen, as well as locally, upstairs at The Eagle, where he invites guest top name DJs to headline his club night 'Flick'.

However, with no end in sight for the nightclub lockdown, Duncan is focused on making his own music and adding to his 17-track, four EP back catalogue.

He finished: "I've been on a number of Toolroom Academy courses and SubSine Academy using funding from Help Musician's UK and Create Scotland. I've also been working away in the studio, furthering my production knowledge."
