A 43-year-old traditional music group is restarting meetings at an alternative venue.
Forres Accordion and Fiddle Club’s first get-together since the start of the coronavirus pandemic will be at Forres Golf Club, on Monday, November 8 from 7-10pm.
Club secretary, Ann Sharp, confirmed there will be a special general meeting to confirm the new arrangements then a welcome back music session featuring guest artist, George Rennie Duo.
She said: “We stopped meeting in March 2020 and since then our traditional venue the Victoria Hotel has closed. We have not had meetings due to Covid-19 but we think it is time to start up again. We would like all of our members to come along again.”
Forres Accordion and Fiddle Club formed in 1978, hosting its first session at the Armour family’s Brig Motel. After 18 years, and performances from hundreds of Highland and Grampian-based musicians, the monthly event moved to the Victoria Hotel, where it remained until now.
The club is run by a committee of dedicated volunteers including Ann.
She said: “Guest Artists are chosen from a list of artists who travel sometimes a great distance to play for us. The atmosphere is very much enjoyed by our audience.
“Meetings will now be held every second Monday of the month at Forres Golf Club. We have chosen the golf club for space, storage and parking.
“We would like all members to come along again.”
