A HIGHLAND League footballer has been banned from driving for a year after being caught behind the wheel while more than three times the legal alcohol limit.

Ex-Forres Mechanics man Scott Graham (34) appeared from custody at Inverness Sheriff Court today where he pleaded guilty to driving with 79mcgs of alcohol in his system, when the limit is 22mcgs.

Sheriff Sara Matheson was told that police staged a look-out for Graham after an anonymous tip-off that he had been drinking.

Fiscal depute Robert Weir said Graham was stopped in his vehicle on Monday, October 4, between the Bhar Mhor roundabout and the B8006 junction to Fort William and co-operated fully with officers, admitting that he had "had a few drinks".

Mr Weir said that Graham had another similar case pending from earlier in the year. It is expected to go to trial in March 2022.

Defence solicitor Marc Dickson said his client was a fish farm worker in the Fort William area and had travelled to meet up with work-mates.

He added: "He was invited to a barbecue and drinks but can't explain why he decided to return home to Drumnadrochit, rather than stay where he was.

"It was an ill-judged decision which he bitterly regrets."

Graham was fined £300 and will participate in a drink driver rehabilitation scheme which will earn him a three month discount from his ban if successfully completed.

Scott Graham appeared in the Highland League for Fort William on Wednesday, scoring in the club's 3-3 draw with Nairn County.

As well as Mechanics, the 34-year-old has appeared for Buckie Thistle, Clachnacuddin, Brora Rangers, Nairn County and Strathspey Thistle.
