A FORMER secretary of Forres Mechanics Football Club has been jailed for molesting two young men.

Elgin Sheriff Court heard on Friday that John Henderson of Bogton Road committed the indecent assaults between April 1979 and April 1981, then again on December 22, 2001.

The first offence involved the 78-year-old trying to pull down a teenager's clothing in the football club's changing rooms.

The second occurred in the toilets of the Newmarket Bar on Tolbooth Street after Henderson followed the teenager inside.

Henderson was detained for interview in 2002 but was not arrested until 2017 when fresh evidence came to the police's attention

It was argued in court that he should be spared jail due to poor health, having suffered a stroke.

However, Sheriff Olga Pasportnikov jailed Henderson for 292 days and placed him on the sex offender's register for 10 years.

Four other charges relating to alleged incidents in Inverness and Forres were dismissed when his not guilty pleas were accepted.
