FLOODING has hit Clovenside Cemetery in Forres.

The cemetery, located behind Forbeshill, was flooded overnight with a large number of gravestones left underwater.

Moray Council is confident that no permanent damage will be caused to graves at the cemetery.

A spokesperson said: "Due to recent heavy rainfall and saturated ground at present, water is ponding deeply in lowest area of Clovenside Cemetery, including over some of the graves.

"While we appreciate it is distressing for those seeing the graves flooded at present, the water will drain away naturally in time with no impact on the integrity of the lairs."

A flood warning remains in place for Findhorn, Nairn, Moray and Speyside.
