Police say a fire started on a luxury car near the viewpoint for Clava Cairns and the Culloden viaduct was "deliberate".
The blaze, which was reported to police last Thursday, is being investigated by officers.
The car was completely burned out, but it is believed to have been a black Land Rover, which was seen at the viewpoint in the days leading up to the fire.
Local residents said that they were alerted to the fire when an "almighty bang" was heard in the area around midnight.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Officers were contacted following a vehicle fire which was reported to police near to Culloden Moor, Inverness, at around 12.10am on Thursday.
"Enquiries into the fire, which is being treated as deliberate, are ongoing. No-one was injured."
Inverness south councillor Duncan Macpherson said: "This has caused great distress to local residents.
"Anyone who knows anything about the circumstances surrounding this incident should contact police or Crimestoppers."
