Newbold Legacy Trust is inviting applications for its final round of funding

Grants of up to £10,000 are now available to local groups or individuals who successfully apply for a final round of funding.

The Newbold Legacy Trust (NLT) is inviting applications for projects which serve the Forres Academy catchment area - the funding window for application is February 1 to March 31 and the trustees will decide on the awardees in May.

A NLT spokesperson said: “The trust will consider funding projects that assist with social, economic, emotional or educational needs, in areas including the arts, sports, science, mentoring and nature.

“We are also interested in hearing from projects that build community resilience and sustainability.

“Particular focus is placed on the needs of young people and the older generation, however applications are welcome from projects benefiting any age group.”

NLT’s funds originate from the sale of Newbold House on St Leonard’s Road in 2020, when owners the Newbold Trust was placed into voluntary liquidation.

The proceeds of sale, after payment of significant debts and a lengthy liquidation process, were placed into newly formed charity, NLT.

Over the last two years, NLT has awarded grants to a total of 36 individuals and organisations.

The groups included SwimABLE Scotland, Riding for the Disabled Forres, Nairn and District and Scottish Ambulance First Responders. People who have benefitted include Lauren Savage and her Little Yogi Bears children’s activity class, Fiona Reilly for her positive pregnancy walks, and Mike Ross’ automotive skills course for Forres Academy pupils.

The NLT spokesperson said: “The trust’s stated purpose is to enrich and improve the quality of life of people in the Forres area.

“This funding round will be the final one before the trust is wound up, as all of the available money will have been used.”
