A FORRES-based company has won national recognition for innovation.

Biomatrix Water won the VIBES Scottish Environment Business Award for Climate Adaption at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Glasgow for products which meet the growing demand for ecological water technology.

Managing director Galen Fulford said: "Winning a VIBES Award is testament to the hard work of the team and recognises our commitment to taking a proactive approach to managing climate risks.

"We are proud of our contribution to tackling this global issue and are delighted that our efforts have been rewarded on a national level."

Biomatrix is an ecological technology company based at the Enterprise Park, working in the water sector. Biomatrix have work worldwide in ecological engineering for waterway restoration and wastewater treatment. Their first river/lake restoration floating island was launched in 1991.

Biomatrix combine durable modern materials with biomimicry processes, using engineering and design innovation to provide effective solutions to urban water pollution and habitat degradation.

Services have been used by city councils, water agencies, river basin managers, restoration organisations, landscape architects, ecologists, property developers, conservationists, private clients and environmental engineers.

Over 400 business figures attended the VIBES award ceremony to celebrate the achievements of Scottish businesses which are demonstrating environmental best practice.

Twelve awards were presented, recognising the focus and efforts of a range of companies including Biomatrix Water Solutions LTD, Diageo and FINDRA in helping to meet Scotland’s ambition to be a world leader on tackling climate change, inspiring others to follow their lead.

The announcement of the winners followed a rigorous judging process which included a written application, three rounds of judging panels and a site visit for each of the 36 shortlisted businesses.

Chairman of SEPA and head of the VIBES judging panel, Bob Downes, said: "The scale of the environmental challenge facing humanity, from climate change to plastics in our oceans, is enormous, with a real urgency to act.

"The most successful businesses in the future will be those that are not just compliant, but which are also low carbon, low material use, low water use and low waste, and which see environmental excellence as an opportunity.

"It is very encouraging to see the diverse range of businesses, small and large, which are taking important steps to reduce their impact on the environment and which understand how environmental excellence can also benefit their bottom line.

"I would like to congratulate each of this year’s winning businesses and organisations, and hope that others will be inspired to follow in their footsteps."
