Elgin march for Scottish independence, the first hosted by All Under One Banner since General Election, will see 11 town centre roads closed
A series of central roads will close as a march for Scottish independence comes to a north-east town this weekend.
Eleven roads in Elgin will shut on Saturday, August 3, for the All Under One Banner march, which will leave from Doocot Park at 11.30am, heading for Cooper Park.
It is expected that, in addition to independence supporters locally, people will travel from across Scotland and gather in Elgin for the event.
This is the first march that All Under One Banner - a nationwide independence pressure group - has hosted anywhere since the General Election on July 4.
Moray Council confirmed the procession’s route is New Elgin Road; Moss Street; Moray Street; Hay Street; Northfield Terrace; High Street; South College Street; Greyfriars Street; Alexandra Road; North College Street and Lodge Lane (Cooper Park).
Rolling road closures will be in place on all of the streets listed. Road users should expect delays and are asked to avoid the affected roads if possible.
The council is unsure how long roads will need to be closed for as this depends on the numbers that turn out for the march.
A total of 300 people have signalled their intention to attend the event on a Facebook event.
Hosts are advising attendees to bring flags, banners, pipes and drums for the procession.
