There are 208 seats up for grabs across the district.

Community council members are elected every four years and get involved in a range of issues from environmental projects and organising local events, to campaigning on local issues, conducting local surveys and organising public meetings, helping make public bodies aware of the opinions and needs of the communities they represent.

Local authorities have statutory oversight of community councils and are required to consult community councils about planning applications and licencing matters.

Prospective candidates have until 4pm on Thursday, September 30 to lodge nomination papers with the Returning Officer at Moray Council’s election office.

If more candidates apply than there are seats available on any particular community council, an election will be held by postal ballot during October.

Nomination papers and full details are available on Moray Council's website, by emailing elections@moray.gov.uk or calling 01343 563334.
