SNP candidate for Moray, Richard Lochhead, insists the Scottish Government has worked hard to steer the country through the pandemic but he admitted the last year has been the most difficult of times for many local families and businesses.

"Everyone I speak to is full of admiration for our First Minister Nicola Sturgeon’s strong, compassionate, and round-the-clock leadership throughout the biggest crisis in generations," he said.

"Here in Moray, as your MSP, I have never worked harder - helping thousands of constituents over the last year and doing all I can to support our communities.

"I am proud of the SNP’s record in Moray. We’ve seen huge investment in our school estate, major flood prevention schemes, new rail and road transport infrastructure, superfast broadband rolled out, free higher education, over 1400 homes for social rent across Moray, new health centres and NHS dental services. And we are now rolling out our transformative 1140 hrs of childcare for families and funding the Moray Growth Deal.

"And the SNP has now pledged to create a National Care Service and to award a four per cent pay increase for NHS staff."

Mr Lochhead admits more remains to be done locally.

"We need local maternity services restored, and to revitalise our high streets. We need to recover from the pandemic and Brexit which has despite all the promises from the Conservatives turned out to be all pain and no gain – just ask our fishermen and local businesses.

"We need serious leadership for serious times."

Mr Lochhead claimed a vote for the SNP will ensure Scotland’s future, and any decision on independence, is the choice of the people of Scotland and not Boris Johnson’s.

He insisted Moray is a two-horse race - there are Labour and Liberal Democratal Democrat candidates - and only the SNP can stop the Conservative candidate Tim Eagle from winning.

"I ask for your support to re-elect me as your MSP and Nicola Sturgeon as First Minister - please use both your votes for the SNP."

  • Also standing in Moray are: Tim Eagle, Conservative; Jo Kirby Labour; Sheila Ritchie, Liberal Democrat.
