Moray motorists set for disruption as new 20mph speed limit signs are installed on A95 and A96 roads
Amey is set to install new 20mph speed limit signs at four locations on the A95 and A96 in Moray.
The work will take place from Monday, October 27 to Thursday, October 30.
The signs will be installed on the A95 at Aberlour and Craigellachie, and on the A96 at Keith and Elgin.
Moray Council has said there is no confirmed date for the introduction of 20mph zones across the region and residents can still take part in the consultation about it.
To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists the work will be undertaken using temporary traffic lights between 7.30pm and 6.30am at each location, as follows:
Monday, October 27
• A95 at Aberlour: From Aberlour graveyard to Speyside Scaffolding.
• A95 at Craigellachie: From the current 30mph speed limit in west to 40 metres east of Speyside Road junction.
Tuesday, October 28
• A96 at Keith: From Regent Court to Seafield Park.
Wednesday, October 29
• A96 at Elgin: From Sherrifmill Road to 50 metres west of Ashgrove Road.
An Amey spokesperson said: “The new signage will help deliver Transport Scotland's National 20mph Speed Limit Strategy, which aims to reduce road collisions and their severity by lowering speed limits to 20mph in appropriate urban areas by the end of 2025.
“The 20mph speed limits on the A95 and A96 trunk roads will be made active at a future, to be confirmed date.
“All schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.”
A Moray Council spokesperson said: “The installation of signage on the A95 and A96 is a matter for the trunk roads operator, Amey.
“There is no confirmed date for the introduction of 20mph zones across Moray as part of the national framework roll-out.
“Residents can still take part in the consultation currently underway in Moray about the roll-out of 20mph speed limits in built-up areas.”
