Don’t go with the FLOW - drone eye view of Moray and Nairn turbine protest

Drone footage has captured the huge size of the protest message which was written upon a Moray beach at the weekend.

About a hundred people worked together on Saturday to create the 60ft slogan ‘SAVE OUR SEA LIFE !!’ in opposition to proposals to store wind turbines in the waters opposite Burghead, Findhorn and Nairn.

Here’s the video, which was filmed on Findhorn Beach by Mark Richards of AuroraFindhorn:

Before being towed out to sea the turbines would be kept between one and three kilometres from the shoreline.

Offshore Solutions Group, a London-based company, has entered a two-year agreement with Crown Estate Scotland to look into the feasibility of what has been christened the Moray FLOW-Park

Moray MSP Richard Lochhead says he met last week with Will Rowley, the company’s CEO, to see if other locations could be considered which would potentially be more acceptable.

Mr Lochhead added: “I’ve been contacted by hundreds of concerned constituents eager to be furnished with more detail of these controversial proposals and it was important to hear directly from the company behind them.

“This project is at a very early stage which presents OSG with the opportunity to conduct rigorous and detailed discussions with stakeholders and local communities who have valid concerns that must be addressed.

“It wasn’t entirely clear to what extent the Moray Firth was the seen as the preferred option or the only option.”

“Scotland’s offshore wind sector presents significant opportunities by delivering jobs and attracting investment across the country as well as cleaner, cheaper energy for future generations.

“However, it’s important that such developments take place in the right place and communities who may be impacted are at the heart of conversations about development.

“There are lots of questions unanswered about a potential Flow-Park and the onus is on OSG to set out clearly what this entails as well as demonstrate that the Moray Firth is a suitable and indeed the correct location for this infrastructure.”

Scottish Ministers, with the help of Marine Scotland, will have the final say on whether it is allowed.

A public meeting will take place in Moray on Tuesday, November 11, with Forres Town Hall the likely venue.
