Forres Mechanics chairman says the club’s North of Scotland Cup win should be a boost for the whole town
Forres Mechanics’ North Cup win should be a boost for the town as well as the club, according to chairman David Mackintosh.
The Can-Cans won their first trophy since the 2012 Highland League title win by beating Clachnacuddin 3-2 in Nairn on Saturday afternoon.
Dave Mackintosh was delighted by the victory but urged the community to back the club so that success can keep on coming to the Cans.
He said: “It’s absolutely brilliant. We never do things the easy way, that’s for sure, but the boys battled really hard and deserved it in the end.
“It’s a huge boost for the whole club and it should be a boost for the town as well.”
He added: “Hopefully people will get behind us and support us, because that hasn’t really been happening lately.
“I don’t think we are alone in that, I think everybody is suffering and we need the help of the public to keep things going.”
The chairman was pleased to see a large number of Forres fans turnout at the final - and sent a message to people to keep supporting the club.
“We had a good support,” Mr Mackintosh added. “It was great to see.
“The message to them is keep supporting us. That’s the only way we can keep this going.
“We have a good side now and we want to try and build on it, if we can. But that’s not easy.
“There are one or two great players here, but keeping them might be a problem.”
Forres Mechanics play Clachnacuddin again in their next match - in Inverness on Saturday, November 1.
