A NUMBER of students and teachers at Forres Academy are self-isolating after a fourth year pupil contracted coronavirus.

The school was informed of the positive test result on Sunday by Public Health Scotland and letters were immediately issued to parents after advice was received that a number of pupils and teachers were having to self-isolate until November 12, having been identified as close contacts.

A Moray Council spokesperson advised there is no evidence of transmission of Covid-19 within Forres Academy and that "very good" control measures are in place which have enabled the school to remain open.

She said: "Our main concern first and foremost is for the wellbeing and good health of the pupil concerned. We wish them a speedy recovery and hope their family stay well.

"We’re in contact with NHS Grampian’s public health team, who advised on the cohort of pupils and teachers to be informed they should enter self-isolation, and will continue to advise us on matters of public health.

"These pupils have also been provided with information on how to access their learning from home."

She added: "Initial advice has been passed to parents and carers giving details of what to do if their child displays symptoms of Covid-19. We will continue to contact parents and carers directly with any further updates.

"All Moray schools receive an enhanced clean daily as standard now in line with Public Health advice, including daytime sanitation, and this allows the rest of the school to continue as normal.

"School buses, which are considered an extension of the school estate, are also cleaned after each run so we’re satisfied that covid-19 safety measures continue to be met."

All pupils in all other classes can continue to attend school as normal unless they develop symptoms or are identified as a close contact outside the school setting by NHS Test and Protect.

The school administrators are asking all parents, carers and students to be vigilant over any symptoms of Covid 19 - high temperature, cough, loss or change to taste/smell. Any pupil with symptoms, no matter how mild, should not attend school and NHS guidance should be followed.
