With both primary and secondary schools due to reopen for most pupils for the first time since being locked down in March, the council have been keen to shine the spotlight on the impact thoughtless and inconsiderate parking can have.

In an online plea for common sense, the local authority has pointed out that an astonishing one in five cars on the road at 8.50am on a week morning are engaged in the school run.

Reaching out to parents and carers, a post of the council's Facebook page continued: "It can be congested near schools and inconsiderate parking can compromise the safety of children making their way to and from school.

"Parking restrictions around schools are in place to keep children safe. If you have to take the car please remember that it's illegal to park on School Keep Clear zigzag road markings and double yellow lines."
