A LOCAL photographer is challenging young snappers to capture the essence of what the coronavirus lockdown means to them.

Gary Murison Photography (GMP), based at Burshaugh, Forres is encouraging prospective 'My Lockdown' entrants aged 12 to 17 to take part in the contest for the chance to win private tuition.

Gary said: "The aim is to encourage them to photograph their interpretation of the lockdown, which other than being something to do, can offer therapeutic benefit during this difficult time.

"I hope the contest will encourage people to think about how they are feeling and create photos representing that feeling, or of things they have been doing."

Images taken via any photographic device will be accepted. The competition is open until Friday, May 22, after which a winner will be chosen for two hours of practical one-to-one tuition.

GMP has been providing photography and training services for eight years, offering evening classes, workshops, private tuition, walks and tours, talks and presentation and online training.

Gary also helps run funded projects promoting networking, communication skills, problem solving and other developmental skills.

He said: "I enjoy everything about my work, from taking photographs to training other people. If I had to choose one favourite element it would be, seeing the unique creativity everyone has and supporting them to develop it.

"The last two projects I ran for young people had the themes of 'Workplace Roles' and 'My Morayshire'."

He added: "The creative arts offer a powerful medium for creating or expressing emotions. Whether we are provoking a response in others or expressing our own emotions, photography can offer a wonderful therapeutic benefit."
