FIVE local martial artists did around 1000 kicks each over three hours to raise money for charity.

Scotland Tang Soo Do masters Michelle Raisborough, Dominique Sutherland, Michael Kyzirakos and Kelly O’Connor, and fellow instructor Henry Stephen took turns on Facebook Live, raising £2020 on behalf of the Scottish Association for Mental Health (SAMH).

Michelle confirmed each participant started with 10 minute sessions, reducing to five minutes for subsequent sections.

She said: "It was very challenging to continuously kick. The heart rate goes up very quickly and it gets very sweaty!

"We kept each other going with words of encouragement and were ready to take over whenever required. It got tougher as fatigue set in, but we were spurred on by the words of support we received and seeing the donations coming in. Towards the end we all kicked together."

The kickers were delighted to raise £2020, adding money from Gift Aid, bringing the total for SAMH to £2422.16.

SAMH provide a range of mental health support and services. See https://www.samh.org.uk/ for more information.

Michelle said: "We all felt really proud of what we achieved abut felt the pain of such intense exercise on the following days! Just getting out of bed or trying to walk down the stairs was very difficult.

"It was worth all the pain and effort though! We were thrilled to raise £2020, a very appropriate amount!"
