Forres Rotary Club invite to open day at Tolbooth

A volunteer group dedicated to making the world a better place is inviting the community to see what it does for Forres.

Forres Rotary Club is hosting its first ever open event at the Tolbooth Courtroom from 2-4.45pm on Thursday, March 13, showcasing its wide range of activities and fundraising efforts, to encourage more people to get involved.

President Jackie Stephen added that local businesses and supporters will also be welcome from 5-7pm.

She said: “We aim to raise awareness of our pursuits and the many organisations as well as individuals who benefit.

“Many people have heard of Rotary International but perhaps don't make the link between us and local events such as the annual fireworks display.

“We encourage everyone to pop in to find out more.”

There are more than 1.4 million Rotary members in around 34,000 clubs worldwide, helping those in need, empowering youth, improving health, promoting peace and advancing communities.

Forres Rotary projects include the Santa’s sleigh tours, Children in Need quizzes, high teas for senior citizens, Shoebox Appeals, Know Your Blood Pressure campaigns, practice interviews for Forres Academy students, fundraising for Bunono School in Uganda, the Helge’s Hole refurbishment, Disaster Relief appeals and many more.

Members enjoy regular social events too. The club meets every Thursday on alternate lunchtimes and early evenings in the Tolbooth Courtroom.

“We’ve had considerable support over the past year,” said Jackie. For example, during our schools’ Colour Run. Support has been provided through practical expertise in set up, marshalling and collecting donations.

“Businesses can help by providing expertise, access to equipment and by enabling links between us and the community. We’re proud of our long-standing collaboration with local organisations.”

Refreshments available during the showcase event at the Tolbooth will include tea, coffee and soft drinks.

Rotarians will welcome members of the public, share information and seek views on the projects that are most important to the community.
