Moray cocaine driver given ban by Elgin Sheriff Court.

A Moray motorist has been banned from the roads for four years after he tested positive for cocaine.

Police officers were on patrol in Elgin at 10.30pm on May 22 last year when they happened across Paul Robertson in a vehicle on Pinefield Crescent.

Elgin Sheriff Court was told that, on inspecting the car, they found one of its tyres was bald.

A check also revealed the 37-year-old was not insured to drive it.

The officers administered an initial roadside drug test which showed positive for cocaine.

This was confirmed later the same evening at Elgin Police Station by a second, official test.

Robertson gave a reading of 21, slightly more than twice the amount at which the law decrees cocaine affects someone’s ability to drive.

The defendant, who is not a first time offender, admitted one charge of driving while unfit and another of not having insurance.

In addition to the four-year driving ban a curfew was also imposed by Sheriff Olga Pasportnikov.

Robertson was told he must remain indoors at an address on Tait Avenue, Elgin, between the hours of 7pm-7am for the next six months.
