Elgin Amateur Dramatic Society staging Aladdin
Magic and laughter are set to light up Elgin Town Hall tonight as the Christmas panto begins its festive run.
A cast of 30 will be on stage for Aladdin, with a similar number helping out behind the scenes with props, sets, costumes and make-up. Elgin Amateur Dramatic Society stalwart Amanda Craib has both written and directed the show which will run until Saturday.
Amanda said: “For many youngsters in the audience it’s going to be their very first experience of live theatre.
“It’s a lot of fun to see their faces when the show starts.
“It’s also wonderful to see them in the foyer afterwards, talking and having their photos taken with Aladdin and Jasmine plus other members of the cast.
“This is the last year we’ll be performing at the town hall before it closes for its revamp, so we’re hoping lots of folk come along and help us go out with a blast.”
Kim McIntyre will portray Aladdin while Lee Whitley is Princess Jasmine.
Attempting to stand in the way of true love is the wicked magician Abanazer who’s played by Milky Milkinson.
The other lead parts are Adrienne Lean as the Genie of the Ring, Lesley Oman as the Genie of the Lamp and Ben Mortimer as Widow Twankey.
The sets have been created by Fochabers Men’s Shed.
The curtain will be going up at 7.30pm tonight as well as on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Saturday will also have a matinee performance from 2.30pm.
