ENTREPRENEURIAL pupils from two Moray schools set out their stalls in Inverness at the weekend.

Teams from Drumduan School and Forres Academy were taking part in the annual Young Enterprise Christmas trade fair, selling products they’d made themselves, on Saturday, December 14.

Forres Academy's Paw Press did a roaring trade selling their children’s storybook aimed at five to seven-year-olds. Handmade jewellery from Drumduan School’s Seasonal Gems flew off the shelves.

The Young Enterprise Scotland Company Programme for Highland and Moray runs in partnership with local schools to encourage young people to experience the challenges of running a business.

Over the year school teams learn how to design and make products, market them and manage the financial side of the business. The scheme is aimed at 15 to 19-year-olds and teams are supported by teachers, a volunteer business adviser from the local community, and an area team.

Linda Thomas, chairwoman of YES Highland and Moray, said: "Once again our judges were blown away by the creativity and professionalism demonstrated by this year’s teams. It is fantastic to have so many teams taking part this year – and despite the cold they all kept their smiles and sales pitches going all day.

"The trade fair is a great way for young people to learn about marketing and try out their selling skills. The quality of the products on sale was outstanding and we’re delighted with how far the teams have already come since they started the programme earlier this year."
